  • Why does my train slow down near switches?

Check your rail joiners. They might be "on" but not tight. Also be aware of any kinks. I have seen a small kink cause a big problem. I have also soldered the rail joints when I was into HO. One I built a bridge abutment and all was fine until about a month later. I had put the plaster over old wire screen and layed track with little metal spikes. It shorted out with another spike else where. What a headache to find. When found I simply pulled out the spike. Maybe you have a small ground like that. Think about how you are holding down your track. Good luck. And yes emery paper works well to clean track.
