  • How can I have continues smoke on my building layouts?

How about a cheap and easy way to install smoke units in your chimineys? I use a cut down metal cigar tube (had to be good for something railroad related) with some holes drilled around the base (but not at the bottom) for ventilation. Get a piece of brass screen (available at any smoke shop) and solder a short length of stiff brass wire to it to get it above the holes. Now for the smoker! Get an inscense cone, light it, and set it on the screen. What could be simpler??? No wires or electricity. The screen should be placed such that the top of the tip of the cone barely protrudes out of the chiminey (needs the ventilation). Small cones burn about 15 minutes. I recently got some larger ones and the clerk said that they would burn for about 2 hours (we'll see!). This method produces far more smoke than a smoke unit and the cones are about 5-10 cents each (10 cents for the large ones). Furthermore, IT'S REAL SMOKE and comes in assorted aromas! Works for me!

Try using a model airplane fuel tank with a feeder tube to the smoke unit. The tank needs to be higher than the unit resevoir. The end of the tube needs to be in the resevoir but lower than the sides. The fluid will not rise any higher than the end of the tube. If you use an oval tank you can place it on a stand outside the building like the old style fuel oil tanks. This would also make it easier to refuel the tank.
