 Can I leave my transformers out this winter?
I let my power supplies and train engines out all winter under cover, but watch out for the mice.
They can cause havoc. Put moth chystals or balls in a container and place in your control box. The first year I didn't do this and they made a mess of things. I had to replace one of my train engines receivers. They love to chew wires, build nests, and also poop all over the place.

Biggest problem is moisture. There will be condensation that will eventually cause problems. Leaving your transformers powered on may keep them warm enough so that you won't get condensation.

The biggest concern will be condensation. Any time moist air works it's way into your enclosure, then the temperature drops, you'll get condensation on the metal parts, which will then cause rust. If you have power available in your enclosure year round, I would consider keeping a low wattage (25 watts or so) light bulb lit inside the enclosure in a safe manner. This will keep the temperature up inside, and in your climate should keep it dry and warm enough to avoid this problem.
