Charles, if you use automotive brake fluid, an old
standard, try a small area first and wash with
soap and water after.

Home Depot carries graffiti remover that works well for removing lettering. I found that it does not damage the finish of the car either.

Use nail polish remover. I have found this to be quite effective in removing lettering while not harming the main finish. This worked on Aristocraft equipment, so your experience may vary. Just brush it on and let it soak until you see the lettering begin to flake, then wipe away.
